Hey Everyone,
I decided to create this first initial blog post as a ‘Me in a minute’ kind of video where you can all get to know me and my story. Mainly just showing my career interests and my long-term goals. I think it is important to start off the blog this way, so the viewers can get to know me in a way. One of the messages I conveyed was that I am excited for this unit and I cannot wait to learn how to edit videos and film them properly.
The main way I tried to portray this short video was by making it a vlog. I prepared a script that I would follow but I found when I recorded my video, I stopped reading off my notes and just got into talking which I think created a better effect. I did not plan on going against what I had already wrote but It made the flow of the short film better and also showed more of how I really am as a person, which is exactly what an introduction video should be about. I videoed myself in my room displaying a white wall behind me and a whiteboard displaying a drawing to add a little bit of character to the room. It was hard to find a suitable time to create the film since I didn’t want to disturb my housemates, but in future, they could potentially become part of my videos since they all thought it was great fun. I was in the middle of the wall and tried my hardest to keep looking at the camera, which proved to be a lot harder than I expected. I think I engaged with the audience enough, but since it was mainly a welcome video it was hard to engage I found. The recording audio I used was the standard microphone from my laptop, however in future I plan on getting a GoPro and really make the most of this unit. It will provide both better audio but also a much better picture, and most importantly, allowing me to create cooler videos in the outdoors.
The main challenge that got to me was that I did not have any proper camera to video with, and that I only really had my laptops webcam that produces poor quality picture. I overcame this challenge by just having to make the most of it. Another challenge was trying to maintain eye contact with the camera because I thought it was quite daunting to continuously look at the camera as I have never really had to do it before, it was a learning experience and got me out of my comfort zone. The main lesson I learnt from this task is that there is a lot more to making a good video than I originally thought.
