ALM102 Task 3

Assignment 3
I decided to choose the technological innovation including the new divides, the old divides getting wider, and how we can use technology to narrow these divides. I mainly used examples of the old divides we had before technology, and how they were getting wider. I also used the example of social media to show that there is new divides with that, however it could potentially change technological divides in total by how connected everyone is recently. I also showed the divides in the generational gap and also the difference by geographic location, and how it is increasing over time and hopefully one day the generational gap is diminished and you can get the same speed internet all over Australia.
Planning this Assignment I found was very tricky. By having to plan enough content for seven minutes was a large task however I made the best effort I could. I planned to have a low volume background music playing to make the whole video a little bit easier on the ears. The framing was my normal go-to for videos with a blog sort of style with myself being the primary object with a blank white wall behind me. I’ve found that this way makes it a lot easier for the audience to fully engage in what I am saying rather than their eyes drifting around the screen. Something that I was not very comfortable with but have also realised makes a very good interaction with the audience is using hand gestures while I speak. I tried to push out of my comfort zone with this one and really dive in. It was an early step however I think It really worked well. I would like to continue to practice this and hopefully eventually have it as second nature.
I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017 to edit my videos, it was very difficult and complex at the beginning but after a lot of practice videos I’m starting to get more and more confident with it. I felt it has an extremely wide variety of options and will be a program to get good at in the long run. One of my first edits was to create an introduction video which is just a little bit of a laugh for the audience at the start and end of each video. I thought I would include it in this assignment because it’s a short little clip that only goes for a few seconds but is a good way to engage the audience.
By using my laptops webcam to video and record myself I had a consistent screen size and resolution saving me a lot of time for going between cameras. I would have liked to experiment a bit more with videoing more things and editing them in different ways but unfortunately, I could not find the right way to go about that given the assignment requirements. However, I did use photos from pexels.com which give free to use images and videos and I used bensound.com for my music. Instead of having multiple different tracks I used the same one but looped it over 3 times. I also set the background music very gentle, so you could only just hear it. I overlayed a table and then called upon the statistics viewed from it, giving a source of proof and interacting with the audience letting them see all the statistics instead of myself just saying them.
The first and almost the most important thing about the entire unit was that I did not have reliable editing software. After doing a bit of research online I decided It was probably worth my time to buy Adobe Premiere. From there on the main challenge was getting used to it. I watched countless YouTube videos trying to really familiarize myself with all of the different ways you could do things. The credit roll at the end of the video was probably one of my main problems. That took me a very long time to try and learn how to get it to roll. The main positives of everything from this assignment is how useful the skills I learnt are when It comes to using them in the real world. I really struggled to get the video to seven minutes. I’m quite sure I can pinpoint it to myself talking too fast when I was filming. Getting in front of a camera is still a nerve-wracking experience, but I think I have progressed and grown a lot throughout the unit. The biggest lesson I have learnt from this assignment is basically all the skills I have gained from playing around with the editing software. I found it really valuable and I cannot wait to continue learning in the future.
